I feel like an infomercial for unruly roots and tubers: “Has this ever happened to YOU?”
All our potatoes and onions (organic) sprouted. Onions can still be consumed, but as potatoes are from the nightshade family, any hint of roots/leaves/stalks are toxic to consume. Once those tubers sprout, well, I just forget about eating them–especially if they are at all green on the inside.
When in doubt, make a sprouted root display! Floating the roots in a clear glass makes for a particularly alien-like appearance. Or better yet, plant’em, which is where the rest of the sprouters will go tomorrow, IF it manages to stay above freezing. It was 5 degrees this morning, 40 this afternoon. I guess it’s time for a permafrost check–
